Meet Charles

My brother taught me my first meditation when I was just 7 years old—a simple visualization of light moving through my body. Even at that young age, I felt there was something powerful about meditation, and it sparked a lifelong practice.

By high school, I was teaching my friends to meditate and leading meditation groups at my parents’ house. Over the years, I studied with a wide range of teachers, including Buddhist monks, Reiki masters, and acharyas from a traditional yogic order in India.

In college, I led a weekly meditation and yoga group, and later spent 13 years teaching yoga full-time.

But some of my greatest lessons came from my own injuries. After suffering serious skateboarding injuries—including torn knee ligaments and a badly broken ankle—I used meditation, breathwork, yoga, and mindful movement as central parts of my recovery. I was able to recover without the surgeries that had been recommended to me and eventually returned to the activities I love.

Those experiences completely changed the way I understood pain, movement, and recovery.

After a lifetime of practice, study, teaching, and healing my own body, I’ve boiled meditation down to what I believe are the essentials—simple, practical techniques you can use to work with your body instead of against it.
